Of Dutch decent, Clark Gable was born in Cadiz, Ohio, on February 1st, 1901. His mother died when he was seven months old, and for some time he lived with his grandmother, until his father remarried. He has been a jack of all trades. He worked in oil fields, became a lumber jack, property boy, scene shifter and general man-of-all-work in small stock companies, and finally left the stage for the screen. His first work was a small part in The Painted Desert, but he speedily rose to leading roles, his latest films including Hold your Man, with Hean Harlow, Night Flight, and Dancing Lady, with Joan Crawford.
